Why GolfWizard Connects with the USGA Handicap Database
Current handicap information. Clear competition terms. Less work for the organizer.
GolfWizard is a USGA Authorized Handicap Data Affiliate.
Before the first tee shot, every organizer needs a clear answer to a familiar question: “What handicaps are we using?” GolfWizard helps you bring current handicap information into the game so you can spend less time checking numbers and more time organizing the round.
GolfWizard integrates with the USGA Handicap Database so organizers can use current handicap information in the same workflow as invitations, pairings, live scoring, results, and payouts.
A Reliable Starting Point for Competition
A well-run game starts with a consistent source of handicap information. The USGA Handicap Database connection helps GolfWizard retrieve the information available for eligible players without asking the organizer to maintain a separate list by hand.
A player’s Handicap Index® is the starting point. A Course Handicap™ reflects the course and tees being played; a Playing Handicap™ reflects the applicable handicap allowance for the competition. These numbers have different jobs, and clear event setup helps everyone understand which one applies.
How GolfWizard Connects
GolfWizard connects to the USGA Handicap Database to retrieve current Handicap Index® information for eligible players and make it available during game setup and scoring.
For eligible players, GolfWizard can retrieve current Handicap Index information through the USGA Handicap Database integration. Where the player authorizes it and the score is eligible, GolfWizard can also help submit scores through the authorized workflow.
Availability depends on the player’s record, the required authorization, and the data and workflows available through the USGA Handicap Database integration. Having an official Handicap Index does not, by itself, guarantee that a player’s record is accessible through this connection.
Official Handicap Information and Personal Performance Tracking
Master and Grandmaster subscribers can access supported handicap features through GolfWizard’s USGA Handicap Database integration. Master combines these personal benefits with its included game-organizing tools; Grandmaster includes everything in Master plus broader organizing capabilities.
Official Handicap Index® information is retrieved through the USGA Handicap Database connection for eligible, authorized players. GolfWizard’s round history and performance summaries reflect the scores and results recorded in GolfWizard. Those summaries are distinct from the official handicap record; recording a result in GolfWizard does not by itself make it an officially verified or posted handicap score.
Less Handicap Administration
Asking every player for an updated number, maintaining a separate spreadsheet, and checking for changes before each round takes time. Retrieving current information for connected players reduces repeated data entry and gives the group a consistent starting point.
Organizers should still confirm the handicap date, tees, format, and applicable allowances before play. Current data supports a well-run competition; it does not replace clear competition terms.
More Confidence from Setup to Results
Players want to know that the same approach applies to everyone. Make the handicap source and treatment clear before the round, and keep any agreed competition adjustments distinct from a player’s official Handicap Index.
With handicap information alongside pairings, scoring, and results, GolfWizard helps organizers answer questions without moving between spreadsheets, messages, and scorecards.
A Connected Path for Eligible Scores
Posting acceptable scores is part of maintaining a reliable handicap record. GolfWizard supports authorized score-posting workflows through its current integration so eligible players can complete that step without leaving the product.
A competition result is not automatically an acceptable score for handicap purposes. Players remain responsible for accurate submissions and for following the Rules of Handicapping and the requirements of their authorized association or golf club.

Where GolfWizard’s Role Begins and Ends
GolfWizard helps organizers use handicap information and manage golf games. It does not issue or independently maintain official Handicap Index records, replace an authorized handicap service, or act as the governing authority for handicapping.
Official handicap administration remains with the responsible handicap authorities, authorized associations, and golf clubs. Questions about an official Handicap Index, an adjustment, or score acceptability should go to the responsible golf club, Handicap Committee, or authorized association.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do players need to use the USGA Handicap Database connection?
Players need a handicap record accessible through GolfWizard’s USGA Handicap Database integration and must complete any required authorization. To establish and maintain an official Handicap Index in the United States, a player must belong to an authorized golf club.
Does every player need an official Handicap Index?
Participation requirements depend on your group and competition. If an event requires an official Handicap Index, make that requirement clear before players enter. Any informal group handicap should be identified as such rather than presented as an official Handicap Index.
When is handicap information updated?
The responsible handicap authorities maintain the official record. GolfWizard retrieves the latest information available through its USGA Handicap Database connection. Organizers should confirm the information used for an event and account for any service interruption or synchronization delay.
Can an organizer change a player’s official Handicap Index?
Setting up a competition in GolfWizard does not change the player’s official Handicap Index. Competition allowances and any permitted event-specific adjustments must be handled under the applicable rules and clearly communicated. Official Handicap Index adjustments belong with the responsible handicap authority.
Can I post scores from GolfWizard?
Eligible, authorized players can use the supported score-posting workflow. A connection does not guarantee that every round or format qualifies for posting. Check the applicable requirements before submitting a score.
Built for the Person Who Makes the Game Happen
The reason for this connection is practical: organizers need reliable handicap information without extra administrative work. GolfWizard brings that information into the tools you already use to build the game, run the round, and settle the results.
